Your Questions About Kitesurfing

Lizzie asks…

Where should I go to learn KiteSurfing?

answers:

I would and did just go out in the bay. Calm days just go in the ocean and learn the basics.
Start by flying a kite of similar design as the para sail that it uses on the beach.
If you really want to spend some cash, I am certain that there is a ‘school’ for that.
Have fun, or get outta the water.

Sandy asks…

Windsurfing / Kitesurfing good for muscle building? ?

im looking to start kitesurfing but im also considering windsurfing. if done reguarly are these sports good for muscle building? not too much muslce just an athletic build. i have been wanting to do either for a while but have only recently got a vehicle and want to replace my gym routine at the same time if possible. (the gym is so boring but i hate not exercising!)

answers:

Windsurfing is awesome! It’s great for building arm muscle when you pump the sail and just hold it up if it’s a big sail. And windsurfing is really fun as well, especially when you get going fast.
I’ve never tried kitesurfing, but I want to. But windsurfing seems like a better arm muscle builder than kitesurfing, while kitesurfing is probably a better leg muscle builder. Try both!

Michael asks…

What’s the best spot for kitesurfing in Kent?

The best of the most popular…

answers:

Don’t know about Kent but in Sussex – Widewater lagoon and Beach Green at Lancing are popular.

Best bet would be to get down to your local beach and see if there are any kite surfers out. Go and speak to them and see where there favourite spots are.

You could try places like Sandwich Bay or the Isle of Sheppey. Also try local sailing clubs as they may have local knowledge.

I sail at Lancing and I know it is popular with kite surfers as we have to rescue one every now and again.

Donna asks…

Why is nobody asking about kitesurfing?

The fastest crowing sport at the moment!

Your Questions About Windsurfing Equipment

Sandra asks…

Windsurfing Equipment?

Does anyone give me a list of equipment that I need for windsurfing? Will give best answer to anyone who provides the best answer :] Thanks!

answers:

Nice description of it with basics
http://www.squidoo.com/wind-surfing

Richard asks…

Windsurfing equipment.?

Hello, i’m looking to get started in windsurfing. Would any of you be kind enough as to list the equipment i’d need to buy? Thanks.

answers:

Firstly I would advise on takin several lessons on beginer kit this will see you get the basics on a forgiving set up. Then you could either buy a package which come in a lot cheaper than buying separatly and beginer kit holds it’s value relativley well. Tushingham and Fat Face have put together a reasonably priced beginer package.
1 Board such as Fanatic Viper, F2 Discovery.
2 Sail around 5.5 m this can be bought second hand as long as not too old.
3 Mast highest carbon content you can afford.
4 Boom
5 Mast base and extention.
6 Wetsuit 5mm minimum for winter and 3mm for May onwards.

Maria asks…

Is this a complete windsurfing equipment to where I can go out on the beach and use it?

http://charleston.craigslist.org/boa/1912476179.html

answers:

I do not see in the pictures the boom, the mast base, the mast extension or the fin. But if you never windsurfed, this equipment is not the right one to learn. The board (Tiga) looks too small volume and does not have a daggerboard. If you are learning, you either need a) a longboard with daggerboard, board volume 200 liters or more or b) (more expensive) a more modern beginner windsurf board, which are wider (3 feet or more). If you already know how to windsurf, at least the basics, you can give this equipment a try, although it is more for an intermediate sailor that already knows how to plane and uses the harness.

David asks…

What equipment I need to practice windsurfing?

Please I’m amateur in this sport., I would like to know equipment brand names, dimentions, everything

answers:

Please take a windsurfing course. Windsurfing is not a do-it-yourself sport. Equipment will depend on the waters you plan to surf. Beginners need a ‘broad board’ and a small sail. Clothing will depend on the water and air temperatures. Talk with local equipment stores and local surfers. Welcome to Wind Surfing!

William asks…

I want to start windsurfing.?

I know I need a beginner board to start at least over 3 meters. Soooooo I guess i am just looking for advice on what type of board I need, what size or style sail would work best with that board and any advice you have on auxillary equipment or windsurfing in general.

I live in Rhode Island and the beach on which i would use the board has fairly small waves… 3-5 feet and wind around 10 knots on a normal day.

answers:

10 knots or less on 5 feet waves may be a bit light. I would suggest a not-too-short board. I would go for 3.5 meters or so. Fully floating. For the sail, I would go for a full-battened 5 square meters one: a tradeoff between being easy to handle (smaller) and have enough power to deal with the waves (bigger). Make sure your board has a good daggerboard – you need to be able to tack before you learn to jibe.
Don’t waste money on a new board or sail-rig. These should be used for you to learn and then keep as a memory while you move on to something more advanced.
And enjoy! Once you start it will be hard to quit.

Why choose Kitesurfkurs Kite.nu in Varberg for your kitesurfing course?

Once you have decided that you would like to have a go at the increasingly popular sport of kitesurfing your next step is to decide where to get started with your adventure. Many people choose Varberg in Sweden, because of the great conditions and high concentration of kitesurfers who come here to learn, practice and enjoy this wonderfully invigorating sport. The next question is which kitesurfing course to use. Here is where I stop to ask you, Why choose Kitesurfkurs Kite.nu in Varberg for your kitesurfing course?

1) Kitesurfing is a safe sport provided you learn the basics correctly. As a beginner you need to learn with qualified and certified instructors. We only use IKO or KSA certified instructors. As well you keeping you safe throughout the training this also means that you will be given a certificate for completing the course.

2) Ideally you want a small, personalised course but with the flexibility of being able to being able to make a bigger, group booking when you are going to learn with some friends. Our basic courses are for two students per instructor. This means that you get to spend more time with your own dragon and will be comfortable out on the water a lot quicker than with other schools, the majority of whom can’t guarantee you as much time with the instructor, due to having bigger classes. Of course, you can let us know if a group of you all want to learn to kitesurf together and we will make sure that you get a longer period of time learning, to keep up the quality and personal attention which we value so highly.

3) A great idea is to use our on-line course to practice the theory before you even get near the water. A unique series of interactive tests and exercises will help you get you prepared as soon you book with us.

4) From your very first days enjoying the exhilaration of being pulled along by the force of the wind you want modern, reliable equipment. We only offer the most up to date gear from Naish, including their famous Sigma Delta kites.

5) One thing which no one can guarantee is that the wind will be strong enough for you to start kitesurfing on the dates you choose. The coast around Varberg is renowned for its strong, reliable winds – why is why we are here, of course. However, if nature lets us down you will find that a Spring wind warranty is automatically included in your booking. This means that if the wind stops we carry on with your training once it starts up again.
6) Another important point is that we don’t charge reservation fees. You only pay for what you receive.

7) The location is very important in the kitesurfing world. Above all, you need somewhere with reliable winds. We use our expert, local knowledge to carry out your training on the best beaches of Halland and Skane. You can expect to receive your course in Varberg, Falkenberg or Landskrona, depending upon the season and local conditions.

The whole course lasts 8 hours, which are usually spread over two tiring but fun-packed days. Our idea to give you great training and tips in a safe environment, so that you can go off and kitesurf independently with a solid base of knowledge and practical advice.
